- and Kane Peterson (kanep@mcs.com) did say:
-
- :>A 28.8 modem will make the biggest difference. The 'slowness' that you speak
- :>of is just the time it takes for a packet of data to travel from your computer
- :>to your ISP and back again. You need to speed up the connection. AmiTCP 4.2
- :>and an 030 will probably only make a small amount of difference.
-
- Thanks for your response. I also thought a faster modem was the way to
- go but one thing bothered me. If I make a direct serial connection
- using my 14.4 modem and VLT or NComm (no TCP/IP stuff in the way), that
- connection is very fast! It has no trouble keeping up with my typing.
-
- So I'm thinking that the reason my napsaterm-with-AmiTCP connection is so
- much slower is because of all the overhead associated with making a
- serial port+modem act like an ethernet connection. If I can make the
- programs that do that (ppp.device, AmiTCP) run faster with an
- accelerator then maybe napsaterm can keep up with my typing. Right?
-
-
- :>>Also, is there an alternative to Napsaterm? (Preferably one with
- :>>scrollbars.)
-
- :>You might want to get "telser.device", then you can use any terminal program
- :>as an telnet/rlogin session. Its very cool.
-
- I'll try that.
